Programmes under different Domain

A. Natural Resource Management

Orissa Tribal Empowerment and Livelihood Programme (OTELP): The programme was expended for five more years in the same area and Jagruti has been selected again as facilitating NGO for the implementation of the programme. It covers 5310 hectares of land in 34 villages covering 2075 families. The major funding partners of the programme are DFID and Govt. of Orissa.

WADI (TDF) Project: The main objective of the programme is to provide sustainable source of livelihood for 1000 marginal tribal families through an innovative intervention of development of each one acre of orchard (WADI) integrated with soil and water conservation measures, retention and management of soil health, water resource development, health care facilities for the primary stakeholders and drudgery reduction programmes for tribal women. The project is supported by NABARD, Bhubaneswar. The project is operational in Daringabadi block.

What We Do

Special Millet programme in tribal areas: the main objective of the program is to increase household consumption of millet to enhance household nutritional security, to improve productivity of millet crop system and inclusion of millet in state nutrition programme and public distribution system. Jagruti has been selected as Facilitating Agency to implement the programme in Daringbadi block.

Forest Right Act: Forest right Act is being implemented in Kandhamal in the year 2009 and since the beginning Jagruti has been involved in the process, be it individual right, community right or Community resource rights. At present we have concentrated on Community right and Community resource right in Daringbadi and Kotagarh blocks of Kandhamal district for better conservation and management of forest.

What We Do

B. Primary Education:

South Odisha Initiative programme has been initiated in 40 Primary and 5 High schools of Kotagarh block with the support of Tata Trusts. Main objective of the programme is Creating stimulating learning environment for 2500 plus tribal children in Kotagarh block of South Odisha through contextual pedagogy and innovative teaching and learning practices, Ensuring grade appropriate learning level in 80% of the children addressed through this initiative in three years,Minimising the dropout rate to no more than 5% before students reach eighth standard and working with tribal children to promote their self-confidence, develop aptitude for learning and excellence.

C. Preventive & Curative Health care:

DCNGO Programme: This programme has been initiated for the management of fourteen V-4 Sub- centers of Kandhmal with help of 8 Field NGOs in Kotagarh, Tumudibandh, Raikia and Daringbadi blocks to address the issues related to Reproductive Chield Health. Jagruti is also operating as FNGO for management of 5 sub-centers in Nandapur block of Koraput district with partnership of My- Heart, DCNGO.

Arogya Plus: Arogya is an innovative programme under NHM. It operates with 7 NGO partners in 21 interior most gram panchayats of Kandhamal district since November 2009 with objectives; to provide curative health services in 21 under served panchayats of Kandhamal district , to provide health education for the prevention of diseases, to build the capacity of the GKS for better management of the village health, to provide hand-holding support to the GKSs for better management of village sanitation and t o provide technical support to the community for better nutritional management.

What We Do

Maa Gruha: Maa Gruha is a residential maternity waiting facility for the pregnant women of the interior pockets for institutional delivery with an objective of reduce maternal and infant mortality rate, supported by NRHM, Odisha. The programme implemented at Lamataput, oraput.


D. Youth mobilization:

Antaranga: Antaranga is a wide district level initiative to organize youth for peace and development. The programme has been an offshoot in the aftermath of Kandhamal communal violence with active involvement role of youth. Jagruti is a partner of the district net- work of Antaranga responsible for Daringbadi area. This programme is supported by Action Aid.

Women empowerment program:
Jagruti has taken up women issues as one of the major programme since 1987. The main objective of the programme is to empower women to deal with their own issues. It is a non outside funded programme. Entire programme cost is shared by the women organizations.
